Tamquita Johnson

Director

Motivated by a strong passion for cultural preservation and information accessibility, I pursued a Master of Library and Information Science at Dominican University. I also have a Certificate in Archives and Cultural Heritage, to equip me with the specialized knowledge needed to excel in archival and collection management.

My educational experiences were enriched by meaningful internships, including one at the St. Louis Zoo, where I gained hands-on experience in conservation and records management. I also completed a practicum at The Great American Songbook Archive and Library in Carmel, Indiana, where I worked on digitizing 1930s sheet music, cataloging original playbills, and developing storage solutions for historical costumes—an opportunity that aligned seamlessly with my dedication to preserving cultural history.

A proud native of Chicago, Illinois, I have spent most of my life immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of the city’s South and West Side neighborhoods, as well as the surrounding southern suburbs. These vibrant communities nurtured my deep appreciation for learning, heritage, and the power of storytelling.

With over 15 years of experience in the retail sector, I have held a range of roles, culminating in my current position as a Senior Ethical Sourcing Specialist for a retail pharmacy company working in the Global Sourcing Program. In this role, I focus on analysis, quality assurance, and continuous improvement while gaining global insight into retail social responsibility and supply chain ethics. The position also allows me to engage with diverse cultures and contribute to more sustainable and responsible retail practices.

Outside of work, I remain actively involved in cultural and community initiatives. I enjoy visiting museums, exploring libraries, and volunteering with organizations such as the Girl Scouts of America, the Chicago Area Archivists, and the Newberry Library. My lifelong commitment to celebrating and preserving culture—especially that of my beloved hometown of Chicago—continues to inspire both my personal and professional endeavors.
