Join the Chicago Women's History Center on Saturday October 17 at Chicago History Museum to celebrate 55 years of service to our community documenting and preserving Chicago women from 1764 to present.
Chicago Women’s History Center is the oldest continuing women’s history organization in the U.S. serving our community for 55 years, preserving and elevating the stories of women leaders, entrepreneurs, architects, thinkers, thought leaders, artists, and activists. We have served our community by deeply investigating our history from 1764 to the present moment. We are the only organization nationwide to have developed this historical legacy to share with our community and to provide a resource for future generations. Since our founding in 1971 we have remained committed to:
• Documenting Chicago area women’s activism and leadership
• Preserving the history through archival research and the collection of materials
• Conducting Oral History Interviews with women in our community
• Sharing the history through public education and publication
Our 55th Anniversary Celebration honors our history by celebrating women activists, historians and leaders, celebrates our achievements, and launches the next chapter of growth and service to our community. Inspired by On the Wings of Change mural and highlighting the Chicago women’s suffrage story this event will celebrate what we have achieved in 55 years and where we are headed for the next 50 years.
Together, these two stories illuminate the courage, coalition-building, and persistence required to make progress — and what it means to carry that work forward today.
