Mexican American and Puerto Rican women have long taken up the challenge to improve the lives of Chicagoans in the city’s Latino/a/x communities. Rita D. Hernández, Leticia Villarreal Sosa, and Elena R. Gutiérrez present testimonies by Latina leaders who blazed new trails and shaped Latina Chicago history from the 1960s through today. At Chicago Women’s History Center we are delighted to host an Author Event with the co-editor Elena R. Gutierrez, and book chapter contributors. This is an important book that expands and documents the history of Mexican American and Puerto Rican women working in Chicago from the second wave feminist era to present.
The contributors will speak about individual women that are included in the book and discuss testimony as a textual form for documenting history and sharing women’s stories. This event will also include a book signing with editors and contributors.
Light refreshments will be provided and this event is free and open to the public.
This event will happen at Chicago Women’s History Center, Fine Arts Building, Suite 403
