Judith Sayad (1952-)
Judith Sayed was born and raised in Chicago, IL until she was 14 years old and then moved with her family to Cicero, IL where she attended high school. Her activism began when she participated in a high school girls group at the Cicero YMCA led by Chicago Women’s Liberation Union (CWLU) founder, Vivian Rothstein. As a consequence she became involved in CWLU until she went away to college in the fall of 1970. Here she developed an interest in printing and worked on producing CWLU publications WOMANKIND and Blazing Star. In 1982 she began working for Rudy Lozano’s campaign for alderman when he was running to be the first Mexican-American elected to the Chicago City Council. From 1982 – 1988 she was employed by Center for Neighborhood Technology as a writer and production editor for their publication The Neighborhood Works. In later years she worked in the field of community health and at the University of Illinois at Chicago in various capacities. She attended the University of Minnesota from 1970 – 1979 in anthropology and humanities and Chicago State University from 1979 – 1981in vocational education.
